I got a quick question: Why are Vitamin Shoppes always on corner lots?.

I also got another question: I never seem to get my salad in at lunch. I have only been on the program for a short time but I just hate fat free dressing. Over the years I have tried dozens of different brands but none of them are very good. It gags me. Could I sub plain steamed veggies or something like that for raw ones? or just skip the salad all together?..

Your question was: Why are Vitamin Shoppes always on corner lots?.

I know just what you mean....I have the same problem. My problem is that I am a MAJOR ranch dressing lover! But I hate FF or light ranch so I haven't been eating my salads as well. A few days ago I splurged and had a salad that had a wonderful Ceasar dressing (full of fat) and it tasted just like the salads you get at like Olive Garden and other nice pasta places. Anyway, I went today and found some ff and light ceasar dressings and cheese type italian dressings. Anyway....I love them! I think I could actually eat more salad now. I don't know if any of that will work for you or what types of dressing you like, but maybe just try a few different kinds of dressing (not just in the kind you normally like) and see if you can find something you like.

If not, I'm sure you could use some of the vegetables as your salad, especially if it's the unlimited types. Good luck!..

I sometimes use a vegtable as a salad. But I really like iceberg lettuce. And I use lemon juice not salad dressing. I buy the squeeze lemon and lime juice. I love the flavor and I'll made up a salad in the morning and let the lemon juice "marinate" in the lettuce all day. Yummy!.

Linda..

I also frequently have celery stalks and cucumber instead of lettuce..

I use Balsamic vinegar and apple cider vinegar..

I also use the recipe below:.

* 1 (8 ounce) container plain low-fat yogurt.

* 2 teaspoons lemon juice.

* 1 teaspoon Dijon-style prepared mustard.

* 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley.

* 1 teaspoon chopped fresh chives.

Try experimenting with vinegar and pureed fruits. You could make your own mock raspberry vinegarette dressing...

I will have to try that recipe! I love chives..

I think my biggest problem is I have always been a Hidden Valley Ranch purist. lol I just have to re-train my taste buds...

Wish Bone makes dressings called Salad Spritzers. 10 sprays = 10 calories..

I'm not a salad-lover, but these are really good..

Hope that helps!..

You could probably sub a veggie for your salad, but be sure to portion it out. The good thing about salad and a fat free dressing is that it is worth very little calories; but so are veggies so you should be fine.

You could also try a salad spritzer on your salad instead of FF Dressing. This would have more flavor without all the extra calories (still more than a ff dressing, but few compared to a regular dressing)..

The most important thing is to find what works for you. This will help you stick with it..

Best of luck!..

I also hate FF dressings. I even tried the spritzers and can't stand them either. The best I can do is Ken's Lite Balsalmic Vinaigrette @ 50 calories and 5g of fat for 2 tbsp. If I have a small salad, which I normally do, I can cut the serving in half to make it only 25 calories and 2.5g of fat. I'm still losing weight so I can live with that added 2.5g of fat in my diet...LOL!.

If I don't feel like a salad for lunch, I'll add a veggie to my lunch. For instance, today for lunch I'm going to saute some zucchini, add in some LS/FF chicken broth (free food) and add that to the Cheese Tortellini. Sprinkle with grated cheese (protein) and I'm all set!..

Kraft Fat free Catalina is really good. All creamy fat free dressings should be banned.

My Favorites that are low in cals (LOW in fat, not fat free) are giner dressing and "Vadalia Valley Creamy Viniagerette" - both seriously yummy...

Comment #9

Kraft ff Catalina has one of the highest sugar contents of most salad dressings - 7 grams of sugar in 2 tablespoons. A sugar packet is 4 grams. That's almost 2 packets of sugar in 2 little tablespoons of dressing...

My new favorite salad at lunch is baby spinach leaves, hard boiled egg (dairy/protein) a few grape tomatoes sliced and the Salad Spritzer in italian. Very good! I think I'm addicted cause I will make the same thing for dinner sometimes (save my dairy/protein from breakfast). I am a huge fan of homeade hidden valley ranch but the italian spritzer is really good for being FF. Even my husband likes it and he is really picky. Kraft's FF Honey Mustard is pretty good too...

I've found that if you love a certain type, like say you love Ranch you won't like the FF version of it..

Try something different than what you usually like and it might not seem so bad.

I love Bleu Cheese but I seem not to mind FF Russian for some reason...

Comment #12

I used spicy salsa on my salad at lunch today. It was so yummy that I may never go back to salad dressing again...

Comment #13

OMG that sounds so good. Now I know what I am having tomorrow for lunch! I love zucchini. I ate it everyday while I was pregnant!..

Comment #14

If you like Vinaigrette dressing, Wish-Bone Salad spritzers are great and they have a variety of flavors, only 1 calorie per spray-..

Comment #15

I usually double my salad portion and eat both the lunch and dinner salads at the same time. I, too, can't stand the fat free dressings, so I always go with the lite dressings. Ken's light dressings are pretty decent. But I never have a salad without the free veggies on top. It gives the salad a different flavor each time...
