Before I begin, I wanna ask: When taking a drug test for a merchandise store such as " Target", do they only take urine test?.

My next question is: (this is all over the place, please bare with me).

I'm not sure if I can hang with it! Okay, so I haven't been on nutrisystem but a minute, but I wanted to see if anyone else experiences this?? I really think there is a chance this food may not be right for my body. I feel like it's too packaged/processed and I don't feel really great afterwards.

Here is a little info on me.

I started this plan for the following reasons:.

1.) I don't eat.

Sound funny? I eat fruit and coffee. That's about it. Anyone like me here?.

I had breast reduction surgery on 11/9 (the best thing I ever have done for myself), and being on the meds just really threw me into not eating.

2.) I need to lose weight.

Pre-pregnancy (1999) my weight was 195. My highest weight was 250 with pregnancy in 2000. After my son was born I held at 220-225 for a few years. I was eating a lot of "whatever" then. I have never been a big meat eater I prefer fish and chicken when I do eat meats. I've always loved fruit.

I started working out in 2004 (for a whole 6 months) and my weight got down to 185. Depression and candy eating took over and over time I went back up to 210. In March of this year I finally, at 38, met the man I should be spending my life with...I got happy, got a little more physical and just being active with him brought me to 196.

I had the BR surgery and that itself took off 3 lbs, then with the meds I withered a bit. So, here I am at 5'6" and 183, so far... want to get to 165? I'll keep going lower than that if my body wants that....

3.) I want to be healthy BUT, I'm afraid that I don't feel like these boxes of packaged foods ARE healthy. ARE they? They make me feel crappy. I am NOT a fast-food or packaged foods person anyhow. What was I thinking? CAN this actually work?.

So, honestly, for the past few days I've been back to just not eating..

(BIG p.s. I have low Thyroid, disgnosed 2.5 years ago and am on daily meds for life...along with anemia)..

Your question was: When taking a drug test for a merchandise store such as " Target", do they only take urine test?.

I am new to the plan also. I don't have the indigestion problem but I feel weak. I am so not ready to give up. I was a yo yo dieter and I am determined this time to do it right. I do have a hint for your indigestion though and many of my friends along with my husband with attest that it works as well. I use peppermint oil.

It's usually about $9.95 for a small bottle and with a drop on your tongue your indegestion will dissapear in minutes. I have been carrying a bottle in my pocket for 7 years now and rarely have to use it anymore but always am glad to have it when I or someone else need it. I am a bartender and most of my regulars stick out thier finger for a drop time and again. They were non believers but now they trust it as much as I do. It will seem strong at first and whatever you do don't get it in your eyes..

Kerriao, have you seen your doctor before starting this?.

Maybe that would be a good idea. Get blood work done, etc...

Catband2:.

I am not "upset" with the program, just wanting to see if there is anyone out there with the same perception I have. I realize some of people here do not have this perception..

Not trying to be an NS hater of course I read on it and doled out the money..

Why am I fat? I'm depressed and the thyroid does not help.

Thank YOU for your response.

Is there anyone out ther that HAS experienced acid indigestion with the food? Has it been too much of a problem to go from little sodium to high sodium? Did you adjust.

And, I DO apologize for my opinon,...so early on.

I guess I don't have that right yet. I know this is not my site and I am not an engrained member, but do not flame me. I am a person here for the same reason that many of you came here in the first place...

Excellent idea! Yes, I do not want to live on TUMS! I'll try this.....

No, I didn't. I have been needing to find a new doctor. I just didn't think I was making that drastic of a change that I couldn't just eat this food. I looked at NS as more of a guideline...a way to train myself to eat regularly throughout the day. I didn't think my body wouldn't like it. Still will try. We'll see...

Your body is adjusting to healthy eating. This can make you tired, crabby, etc. It is a withdrawal from carbs, fats, sugars and all the other stuff. You have to let the program work for you.

We don't know if you went from little sodium diet before (because we really don't know what you were eating), but NS is not a high sodium diet. NS is withing ADA guidelines of 2200-2400mg of sodium per day..

NS gives you a balanced meal of protein, carb, fruits, vegetables and fat. GIVE IT TIME...

Anyone have any ideas for my weak dizzie feeling I have been carrying around with me for 3 days? I am exhausted and yes I have had blood work done. any ideas??..

Make sure you are eating all the fruits and vegetable add-ins along with more protein than dairy.

The first couple days or weeks your body is adjusting to lower carbs, less sugar and less calories. It takes a while for your body to get used to it. You might want to add a few extra calories in the way of an extra snack of fruit and protein for a week or so. Just until your body gets used to the plan. Just an extra 100-200 calories won't hurt your weight loss too much but it will help you stay on track and give you a little extra energy..

You also might want to talk with a counselor who will go over your daily menu to see what might be going on. Or, you can post a day in the life menu and we will also try to help you...

Thanks for the advice good luck to all. K~..

Is this a good idea, given that this program is based on the glycemic advantage? I say talk to a NS counselor...

I have acid-reflex and before NS it was 100% worse. But before getting advise from everyone and their brothers I think I would talk to a doctor and/or the NS counselor. After all, with all the moola you are putting out I would think you would want all the bang for your buck and it cost nothing to talk to the NS counseling team. Or you could just take the advice of everyone and try all the home remedies and hope that something works. But no matter what you do I want to wish you Good Luck...

I went from having to take pepcid daily to not having to take any at all since NS. I would suggest seeing a doctor about it..

One misconception about NS is that because it is shelf stable it must have more preservatives. Actually it is not. The processing allows for less preservatives than many prepared meals in the stores. The sodium is also in the normal range for the average diet.

Before I went on NS I Thought I ate really healthy. It didn't seem to me that I over ate or ate the wrong foods. I was frustrated on why I couldn't lose weight. I was skeptical about it working for me. In fact for the first two weeks I had a hard time eating all the food. Yet the weight that was so hard to lose suddenly started to fall away.

I would eat too little half the time and over eat the rest of the time. Putting my body into a spin. And I had way, way too much coffee with cream and sugar and way too much fruit juices all of the time...

My suggestion is based on advice given in the past by a NS counselor. They have always said that nobody should feel weak or light-headed and if you do, you might need a few extra calories for a while. Just until your body adjusts to the plan. And the fruit and protein snack is low glycemic..

It is better to add a few healthy calories rather than risk some of the alternatives...

Kerriao...I apologize if I came off like I was flaming you...that certainly wasn't my intention...guess I've been doing this so long, your question has the earmarks of a NS slam...my error and again I apologize..

For the record, I have always had acid reflux and when I'm doing the program I don't...if you continue to have problems, consult a doctor. But a lot of this is adjusting to the lifestyle of healthy eating. Just be sure you make wise decision to what you add in...that they don't contribute to the problem..

Cathy..

I would suggest consulting a doctor for any abnormalities you may be feeling. Talking to a nutrisystem counselor is an idea also..

I am also on Thyroid medicine for Hypothyroidism. I've found it to be very important to eat food at the recommended intervals. The fruits and vegetables are key points. I eat pretty large salads with a mixture of lettuces and other salad vegetables recommended by NS. My wife usually makes up a large batch each week. Don't forget to include the fat portions either.

The first week was a little bit of an adjustment for me. This was especially true for the first three days. I'd also suggest not doing any strenuous exercise initially until you body adapts a little..

There are a lot of causes for indigestion, some serious, which is why you should talk to a good doctor if the problem is still present after a few days. Hope this helps...

I just started yesterday and am having a bit of carb withdrawl. Too bad for me though, I guess it's what I get for living on cruddy fast food for so long..

Where do you get the Natures sunshine? (Not for me. I am not having any indigestion trouble with the NS food. My son has indigestion problems and lives on tums. Yikes!)..

I had to give up tea and never drank a lot of coffee but when I did it gave me acid so bad, I never wanted to drink it. I did love my iced tea and when I started NS, I was drinking so much water that I could not work it in and found that when I quit, my heartburn when away. I experimented later on and tried drinking tea again. After two glasses my stomach was burning again. Anyone having a serious problem with it, needs to consider how much tea and coffee they drink...

I had serious acid reflux before starting back on NS, & would wake up around midnight with my windpipe burning, and then I had to sit straight up for about an hour. When I stick with the NS plan, I have no reflux whatsoever. It appears that the one thing that causes it for me is eating too much on any one day..

I don't normally eat food as salty as NS, but have resolved this by adding lots of steamed vegetables to the hot entrees...

Natures Sunshine Peppermint oil can be found at a healthfood store. I'd call ahead thoug because some don't carry the brand and alot of times they are out of it. Good Luck.. my son is always asking where mine is as if he didn't know it in my pocket.....

Thanks for this info....i had been free from my acid reflux for quite awhile til I started NS and now it is worse than it ever was...none of my usual drugs has helped it so hopefully peppermint will calm it.....

It will take time your body is in shock take it one bite one day at a time the plan works if you work it and I for one am healthier then I have ever been Best wishes, Cina.

PS. I had hart burn so bad for the first few weeks I thought I was going to die but it passed and Thank goodness I did not give up I FELL GREAT!!!..

This message is for Kerriao, I have been reading your post and I have to say that I am feeling that maybe it's your Medicines that is causing you to feel as crabby as you are feeling.

I am not much of a sodium eater as well, and I don't have any of you medical problem. I actually eat pretty healthy; just have a love for sweets. But I am guessing that maybe you should just incorporate more green foods in to your NS meals.

For example, have you tried the Vegetarian Pasta, I have that with a 1/2 cup of green beans, baby carrots, and string beans, some times I will have 1 to 11/2 cups of mixed vegetables in stead. I actually love vegetables and encourage it in practically all the meals, if I have the eggs I have it with 1/2 cup of green sweet pees that will help with the extra sodium, because all those extras are fresh not cooked with any thing apart from water.

So they absorb some of the sodium, which is very good for someone like you. Also when you don't eat the fluids in your stomach actually starts eroding the lignin of the stomach wall, this aeration can cause stomach aisles and even the acid problem that you have been having.

Too much Caffeine is not good for the body as well. Try great tea, with Honey, it may work out better for you, one thing is for certain the caffeine is lower in Green tea. And there are other natural alternatives that you can recherch as well to help with all those health problems that you mentioned.

For your anemia, there are certain types of vegetables that when combined together helps to rebuild the cells in the body and in the blood. A lot of cancer patient that do alternative treatments and recover from Cancer use these types of vegetables to help. You may juice them or eat them, but they will help.

Vegetables like beats, celery, carrots, ginger, apple and spinach, when combined together they create a great tasting juice that is very good for you body. As with every thing you have to be consistent with it to see results. But you really should have a blood test done as well, they can give you so much information from a blood test, what's in you body and what's lacking.

Hope that this helps you out some. Good Luck and have a Great New Year !!!..

I have to agree with you Sandy. I too have had a serious reflux problem for years but since being on NS I have not had that problem. I think a lot of it is that we are eating smaller portions more times per day. My doctor use to tell me to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day. It is when I eat large amounts of food that I suffer.......late at night, sometimes waking strangling from the backup and burning severely. Then having to sleep propped up the rest of the night. I can tell you I sure haven't " missed " those times...

OK, by your own admission you've only been on the program for less than a minute...this may sound harsh but I get so upset with people who get upset with the NS program after only being on it for less than a minute....I don't mean to be harsh, just want to make a point...give it a chance...this is a GREAT program and if you spend any amount of time on these boards and get to know some of the people here and their stories, you'll see how successful it is and how it has changed a lot of lives..

Sounds to me you've got some decent eating habits so I don't know why you've got a weight problem in the first place....you work out, you don't like fast foods, you eat fish and chicken and fruit...NS are healthy for one thing...I'm not a pre-packaged person myself but they have made it so easy to follow the program and see results..

For the record there are a lot of us here with low thyroid, I for one...and it hasn't stopped me from losing weight on NS..

Just give it some time, find which food appeal to you...no one loves all the foods all the time but your tastes will change and something you didn't like in the beginning you can't live without a few months later..

Best of luck,.

Cathy..
