I got a quick question: What's the best Vitamin Shoppe variety skin care line for thirty-something year old women?.

I also got another question: I am beginning to play with altering favorite recipes to mimic NS meals and need your opinion as to the best protein powder to add to food that will be cooked - and should it be mixed in at the end of cooking - say for a veggie chili?? Also would the same powder be good for puddings?..

If you live near a Trader Joe's, they have a Whey powder which is great, I'm very happy with it...can't tell you how much it cost, it's been awhile since I last bought one, but given it's TJ's, it's probably reasonably priced..

Cathy.

I just checked the jar, it still had the price on it...$8.49 for 16 oz...

I've always used Designer Whey Protein. In my experience this has been the best tasting and easiest to mix without a blender. Its available at many groceries and most health food stores. Hope this helps!..

I bought EAS 100% Whey Protein but you might think of asking ninerbuff what he thinks since he is a personal trainer and body builder....

DO we need to add more protein via powders or no? Would it help build muscle or what?..

Check out miss Size8Jeans. She uses Whey protein and she looks great. She is so tone and muscular, but she works out a lot. She has a great website/blog, etc.

No, we do not have to add a protein powder to this diet, but after seeing size8jeans, I've been adding a little when I work out with weights. I want her "back" and "arms"...

I also use Any Whey. As stated above, it is tasteless, adds virtually no carbohydrates, and is not denatured when used in hot recipes. I get mine at netrition.com...$4.95 ships any size order..

Are you are recommending it as a add in mix to your meals or to mix it as a shake and drink it seperately. Sorry, I am new at this so bear with me if I sound clueless. I am right now =)..

I make protein shakes for my afternoon snack, but I've been on maintenance for 21+ months...

You are doing great. I see how much you have lost. You are my new role model. So as an afternoon snack do you have a NS snack and a protein shake?..

I also use whey protein powder for shakes. I get mine at a health food store near me.

3g carbs.

24 g protein.

1g fat.

1g sugar ( so important...make sure this isnt high).

120 calories for 1 scoop....

I mix in blender with water, granulated fructose and low glycemic fruits..strawberries and peaches and sometimes a 1/2 a banana mixed in (higher glycemic but good for the heart). Its delicious and filling ..

Not to answer for Sharon, but she's using the protein shake as a replacement for her afternoon protein/dairy...she may even add the fruit in to get her full snack in one shake. I do this myself. You do not use the NS dessert for your afternoon snack (unless you're moving your meals around).

For those of you asking about adding protein to foods, just remember, protein shake mixes have calories...

I just want to clarify I am not using the whey protein while on NS...that is something I did in the past and one day will do again when I have reached my goal....

I love the EAS 100% Whey - chocolate flavor. It mixes very well. I use it in my Dannon Light and Fit yogurt to make it a little more protein heavy and it is my afternoon snack. Sometimes I will put some in my coffee to thicken it up and add a little chocolate flavor..

No, I have the shake as my pm snack. 1scoop of any whey, 1/2c skim milk, ice and a couple of berries, or 1/2 banana (and 1T unsweetened cocoa), whatever fruit I havewhiz it up in my Magic Bullet. It's very filling and delish! A little higher in calories than just a dairy serving and a fruit, but afternoons are my hungry time...the shake holds me over until dinner..

Oh, thanks for the compliment too. Stick to the program, and you'll be a "loser" too!..

I am already planning how to doctor my favorite recipes for life after NS. that's why I'm asking for recommendations. Thank you for all of the suggestions!!..

Any Whey is tasteless and you can bake and cook with it. It doesn't break down with heat. No carbohydrates either. They sell it at GNC, but it's expensive. www.Netrition.com sells the big container for the same price GNC sells the small one. They only charge $4.95 to ship it too...
