Hi everyone, quick 1st question: What kind of jobs drug test you? Referring to grocery stores, restaurants, etc.?.

My 2nd question is: Here's a tip I thought I'd share. I love salmon...especially smoked. The salmon is pinkish orange, but the layer right next to the outer skin/scales is usually brown or grey. That is where the bad stuff is stored (mercury, chemicals, etc). If it's smoked salmon I just peel it off. I like and recommend Wild Salmon. I just get rid off the bad layer...

I rather order fish anytime whenever I go to restaurants... fish helps with my maintanance better than chicken or beef... same thing at home... so good to know your tip.....

I love salmon too- there's a great restaurant on the ocean up the street that serves a grilled salmon filet with black bean salsa- I get 2 meals out of that, yummo!.

I have some smoked salmon in the frig someone gave us for xmas from Harry & David, normally I would serve it with crackers or in a dip- I suppose I could just cut it up on a salad....any thoughts?..

I like to have salmon dip too. My mom makes Sokeye Salmon into a sauce for the family and we would put it on toast! Skippers has a (wild) salmon caesar salad it is sooo good!! About $6.95 +tax. I put some lemon and crackers on it. Haven't had Skippers lately since on NS.... I'm sure it's probably loaded with salt. Salmon isn't exactly NS friendly either (sodium) , but ohh soo good!!..

I always thought that the dark part was just dark, like how chicken has white and dark meat. I've noticed a darker part on other fish also, such as tuna. I typically give the dark part to my cat because it is more fishy.

Are you saying that the dark part is dark because of the mercury & chemicals or that just happens to be where it ends up? I don't want to feed it to my cat if it is true...

Hi Tisha,.

I learned this tip from my parents...my dad does a lot of fishing!! Not sure how he found out...but his buddy smokes a lot of salmon!!! I don't think it's a myth about the dark area, but can't say for sure...I should ask a store butcher. Whether chemicals are stored in the dark area or end up there that is pretty much the same thing,...it's bad either way. That's probably why it's more fishy..

When I buy smoked salmon at the store for instance, I know the ones that have hardly any dark meat (like a darker pink) taste better, and look fresher seem to be young salmon.

And I do know wild salmon is healthier than farm raised...I eat local wild salmon, but prefer Wild Alaska Salmon...
