Basically they change the named of diet sprite to sprite zero...

I didn't know you could even buy a product called diet Sprite any more. All I've seen in several years is Sprite Zero. I think they just changed the name to convey the idea that it's calorie and caffeine free...

The diet drinks basically just have a different combination of artificial sweeteners than the zero drinks. I think they have less aspartame and more ace-k. Generally, I think the zero drinks taste better than diet drinks but that's a matter of opinion. I'm a sucker for Diet Mtn Dew, which is sweetened with sucralose instead of aspartame...

Sprite Zero replaced Diet Sprite in the US. Coke Zero on the other hand is different from Diet Coke because it uses the same syrup formula as Coke Classic without the corn syrup/sugar. Diet Coke's syrup is a different formula than Coke Classic (and in fact was the syrup base for "New" Coke back in the 80's.

But to answer your plan, yes you can have diet sodas OP as long as you're getting at least 64oz. of regular water (100+ ounces are better). Watch that caffeine intake though!.

Also be aware that diet colas can cause cravings for sweets in some people..

If they don't for you, then enjoy!..

I find the syrup explanation fascinating! I always wondered how Coke Zero differed from diet Coke..

Also, not all diet sodas are on plan. There is at least one diet orange soda that has 6g/carbs per 8 oz! Just read the labels. Anything that is 0 calories and zero carbs is on plan. And like Larry said, watch your caffeine intake. Medifast recommends a limit of 300mg/day because it could cause the shakes and other adverse reactions due to the very low calorie diet we're on...

You're right jbonner, I should have quantified that. Diet Minute Maid Lemonade for example is 5 calories per 8oz. serving and does have carbs as well (which I'm too lazy to look up right now). It should be specifically a diet drink that's considered 0 calories/ 0 carbs)...

This would explain to me why Coke Zero tastes like watered down Coke to me...
