Dangers of Phentermine
I own a health blog and one of the most common spam I get through the comments are blatant, loud advertisements regarding a drug called Phentermine.
Well, since there are a lot of gullible people on the internet, I wanted to write this article to warn you about the potential dangers of Phentermine. Maybe this will make you think twice before considering buying this dangerous, useless weight loss drug.
What do I think of Phentermine?
First off, what is Phentermine?- Phentermine is an amine, which stimulates your nervous system. This in turn leads to higher blood pressure, a faster heart pace, and a loss in appetite. This loss in appetite is what most phentermine companies market to the weight loss community.
- Phentermine is used by most people to lose weight, but there are also other reasons why people are prescribed Phentermine.
The drug was first approved by the FDA in the late 1940's as a weight loss pill. They deemed it safe in suppressing your appetite. By the 70's hydrochlorida was added, and sold under ther names Ionamin, and Adepex. Unfortunately, there were not official safety trials on the drug until the 1990's when Fen-Phen (a drug to be used with Phentermine) was carefully looked at.
When Fen-Phen was introduced to the public, it literally became an overnight success. Everyone wanted to buy Phentermine. Unfortunately, noone realized that taking Fen-Phen along with Phentermine would produce bad complications.
By the summer of 97, more studies were conducted, and it was shown that taking Fen-Phen led to heart valve disease. Fen-Phen would create these wax-like deposts in your valves, which in effect stopped them from closing shut! The product was taken off the market, and now you can only get it through a doctor's prescription, OR online pharmacies, and unethical websites.
So don't be fooled by the advertisements. It's a shame that everyone is out to get your money. But you need to be careful. Phentermine is really dangerous and can cause a whole array of harmful side effects such as:
- An increase in allergies
- Irregular heartbeat (this can lead to death)
- Drowsiness and Dizziness
- Frequent Headaches
- Inability to Sleep
- Extremely High Blood Pressure
- Increase in Constipation
- Change in Sex Urges
The fact that Phentermine is a stimulant that affects your nervous system is the main stigma.
Taking Phentermine for a prolong period of time will lead to severe addiction. Even if you are allowed to take it by your doctor, you should still take extra caution, and preferably not take it for more than a few days.
So, if you were one of the few who were thinking about taking Phentermine, let this article be a lesson to you. You will only see a temporary loss in weight, if any. Without changing your eating habits, and regular walking/jogging, taking Phentermine will simply be a waste of money.
Many people who have taken Phentermine in the past for a prolonged period of time are not suffering even more extreme health problems, unfortunately.
Phentermine is not found in any drug stores, or over the counter, and can only be prescribed by doctors legally. They can also be bought through online pharmacies, which are an evil.
Unfortunately more and more people are turning to these venue to get drugs that they can't elsewhere. Let me tell you from experience: Online pharmacies are not only unethical, but buying products and consuming them is extremely dangerous. They are a huge source of counterfeit phentermine, which can contain lethal substances when consumed.
Online pharmacies usually ask you a bunch of questions regarding your well-being, such as how much you weight. Most of these are yes/no questions, and are definitely not enough to make a true medical decision about your health.
Phentermine, along with Viagra are 2 of the most common health products such by these online pharmacies, and by no coincidence, they are the ones that are spammed in blogs, email, and forums a lot.
Some of you might have heard this news story, but there was a 50 year old man who took Viagra, which was recommended to him by an online pharmacy.
A few days later, he died because of complications the drug had with his heart. Please take my advice: Avoid online pharmacies like the plague, and avoid Phentermine.
Phentermine is especially dangerous if you:
- have a family history of heart disease, or have family members who suffer from extremely high blood pressure.
- if you have glaucoma.
- you have anxiety problems
- you have diabetes
- are pregnant. Please talk to your doctor before even thinking of taking Phentermine as it can cause harm to your baby!
If you feel hopeless, and do decide to use Phentermine, or are legally prescribed Phentermine by your physician, here are some things you need to keep in mind:
- Be careful driving and using machines while taking it. Why? Because taking Phentermine has a tendency to cause drowsiness and make you dizzy at times. If you feel dizzy any time, stop doing the activity and rest.
- Don't stop taking Phentermine at once. You will experience severe withdrawal behavior. Sit down with your physician and make a detailed plan on how you plan to stop taking the pill entirely.
- If you are prescribed any one-a-day Phentermine pills, do not chew on them with your teeth. Instead swallow them in one piece.
Phentermine comes in tablets and extended-release capsules. It usually is taken as a single daily dose in the morning or three times a day 30 minutes before meals. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take phentermine exactly as directed.
Most people take the drug for 3-6 weeks; the length of treatment depends on how you respond to the medication. Phentermine can be habit-forming. Do not take a larger dose, take it more often, or for a longer period than your doctor tells you to.
To prevent side effects, phentermine should be taken with meals. If you are taking an extended-release (long-acting) product, do not chew or crush the tablet. There are some tablets that can be crushed and mixed with food.
There are many other natural, beneficial ways to lose weight. One of them is to stop focusing on avoiding fats, and to focus on eating more fruits, and MORE good fats such as olive oil, and avocado. You need to understand that being overweight is not normal... and blaming it on our genes is for those who don't want to take responsibility.
