Before I begin, I wanna ask: Is there a difference between perfume bought at a Vitamin Shoppe vs. a department store?.

My next question is: Hi everyone. I just placed my NS order yesterday and I can't wait to start and watch those pounds start to shed off but I am confused. I see that you are supposed to eat so much protein, veggies, fruit, dairy.... products everyday. How are you supposed to know what to eat and how to track it or when to eat it? Are the set meals or what? How do I know what food to buy? Are they all ff or sf foods? Can I eat them whenever? Ok yeah I am a little bit lost. I heard people saying something about adding some a egg to the NS eggs for their proteins and yogurt for dairy.

Are you supposed to eat that along with the NS dinner? Ok I think that is enough questions and hopefully you all are not thinking that I am crazy. I just want to lose weight really bad and so I want to make sure that if I am going to spend the money that I am doing the program right!.

Your order should include a welcome package with a meal planner which explains when to eat what (day by day). Just check off the circles when you eat that specific food. When the circles are all filled in, you're done eating for the day. Simple!..

Welcome to the NS family!! You can also track your meals on line. Go to MY PROGRAM and click on "My Program" again. It will take you to today's date. You can click on NutriSystem Entree for each meal and click on which one you ate. When you're adding in your "extras" for each meal/snack, you can create your own listings so it really IS your unique program. This makes it real easy to enter something not already listed on the NS list.

You can spread out your "extras" thruout the day if you like and it won't affect your weight loss. I save my breakfast protein/dairy sometimes for a mid-morning snack along with a fruit serving. The same for the afternoon. Just as long as you get everything in for the day that's what matters. Personally I couldn't eat everything if I only ate 3 meals a day. I fill up fast!! Plus this helps keep your blood sugar constant..

Under MY PROGRAM, there is a list of grocery store foods. Check that out so you'll have most of what you need when your order arrives. You'll find you may change what you buy as you go along. You'll do a LOT of label reading which is very educational..

One of my favorite FREE snacks is SF/FF jello with a dollop of FF Cool Whip. Now THAT is heaven and LEGAL!!.

This morning I had pancakes with a cup of thawed/mashed strawberries sweetened with Splenda (LOVE that stuff) and cool whip on top. Talk about feeling like you're cheating I enjoyed every morsel!!.

...and don't get overwhelmed when your first order arrives. Just take everything out of the box and make sure you have enough meals for the 28 days (and the free week if you got that as well). I had one bag of pretzels open during shipping but everything else was there. My welcome packet was missing but all that information is availabed online under 'my account' at the top of your webpage. I called CS and they're sending me a new welcome packet but the stuff online is sufficient.

Also, don't forget to click the "daily dose" under 'news & articles' every day. You get $10 towards further orders for every 50 clicks you accumilate.

Hi Sara,.

One thing that has worked for me with this "extra" is when I prepare dinner for my husband, I'll make an extra bit of lean protein for myself... last night I broiled orange roughy and it was so good with my salad and ns entree. The night before I had 2 oz of grilled shrimp (we had a lovely warm spell in the midwest so I was grilling in Chicago in January). So, if you are cooking for more than one, make something that can give you that extra bit of protein..

Pam, Thank you so much for breaking everything down the way you did. Where did you find out all of this? I had no idea I could have celery just to snack on or the Popsicles or jello. Didn't realize there were free foods. I just started Monday and need all the help I can get. The peanut butter on the cookie was something I never would have thought of. I am having a problem with the Nurtitoots but will get some Beano. Thanks to everyone for being so helpful...

I'm just starting out also. I was trying to plan my trip to the grocery store to pick up my extras but I wasn't quite sure what was allowed. Thanks for all of your posts here. It has helpled alot. I do have one extra question though:.

1) Is 1/2 & 1/2 allowed if it is FF and I count 2 tbsp. as a serving of dairy?.

This is a great and very helpful post. I am patiently waiting for my package to arrive and looking forward to starting the program (and so is my doctor, lol). My goal is to loose 70 pounds and improve my blood sugar levels at the same time with wise eating habits. Sounds like there will be some foods I will greatly miss and have eaten too many of over the years...

Ree: Your dairy/protein should be 100 calories or less, 3g fat or less and 7g protein or more. Use the FF 1/2 and 1/2 as a free food by having 20 calories or less in your coffee..

Here is a suggested list of "free foods" that was provided by NutriSystem counselors and posted by NutriSystem on the Bulletin Boards (although there was nothing about them in the information sent out by NutriSystem).

A "free food" is anything that is 20 calories or less and you can have up to 3 per day (they don't need to be with your meals, you can have them anytime). I use SF Popsicles as a snack before bed. You can eat SF Jello topped with 1 tablespoon Free Cool Whip, which is nice in the afternoon. SF Pancake Syrup is another example (most of which are 20 calories for 1/4 cup...or Walden Farms with 0 calories per serving). Just don't have all 3 at once, that would make it a carb..

FREE FOODS LIST.

There are Free Foods that can be used on the NutriSystem plan. The term Free Foods comes from the American Diabetes Association. They are low calorie foods (20 calories or less) that can be added to the meal plan in small amounts. This minimal amount of calories will not affect weight loss, but we do recommend that they be limited to 2 or 3 servings per day if the foods have any calories at all..

FOOD QUANITY.

Coffee/Tea Unlimited.

Diet Soda Unlimited.

Sodium Free Seltzer Water Unlimited.

Sugar Free Tonic Water Unlimited.

Club Soda (not tonic or quinine water) Unlimited.

Artificial Sweeteners Unlimited.

Spices (salt-free) Unlimited.

Herbs Unlimited.

Vinegar Unlimited.

Lemon Juice Unlimited.

Sugar Free Gelatin 6oz per serving = 15 cal.

Sugar Free Gum 1 stick = 5 cal.

Nonstick Cooking spray Unlimited.

A-1 Sauce or Steak Sauce 1 Tbsp.

Butter Buds 1 oz.

Bouillon or Broth (Dry)- Low Sodium 1 packet, 1 tsp, 1 cube.

Bouillon or Broth (Canned)- Low Sodium cup.

Catsup 1 Tbsp.

Cocoa, dry unsweetened 1 Tbsp.

Coffee Whiteners (Powdered) 1 Tsp.

Chili Sauce 1 Tbsp.

Chocolate Topping (Reduced Calories) 1 Tbsp.

Cool Whip (fat free) 2 Tbsp.

Sugar Free Candies 20 cal or less per serving / 0 fat.

Low cal or reduced cal syrup Amount not to Exceed 20 cals/ 0 fat.

Dill Pickle 1.

Dream Whip 1 Tbsp.

Sugar-free Jam/Jelly Amount not to exceed 20 cal.

Low sugar Jam/Jelly 2 Tsp.

Horseradish 1 Tsp.

Mustard 1 Tsp.

Picante Sauce 1 Tbsp.

Popcorn (light and natural) 1 Cup POPPED.

Relish 1 Tsp.

Salad Dressing (Fat Free) 2 Tbsp.

Remember we were all newbies once. I don't know if I would have made it if these boards were not available to me. There are some of the most caring, wonderful and helpful folks on these boards.
