I was just diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and started on medication. I am hopeful that the medication will help me on my weight loss journey, in addition to the other symptoms, hair loss, mood swings & being tired all the time!! Has anyone else found that medication helps? I don't really like taking medications, but at am willing to try anything at this point.

In doing research on hypo and the medications it doesn't do well with soy. Medifast shakes are soy based. I feel that I am finally on the right path with my weight loss after years of battling my weight and it seems to be stalling now. I don't want to do anything that will interfere with my weight loss. I left a message with my doctor, I don't have a response yet. Does anyone else know about the interactions with soy?.

I've been taking Levothyroxine for about 5 years now and YES, you have to take your meds THEN wait at least a couple of hours. I roll outta bed between 6:00 - 6:30 and my first meal is @ 9:00. I was anti-med person as well, but it was necessary as I was super duper symptomatic to Hypothyroid (Hashimotos)....hair loss, WAAAAAAAAAAAY tired all the time (I thought I was going nuts), bad nails, etc. I'm all better now! Bottom line, you are NOT doomed if you are Hypo. and doing MF!!! You WILL lose weight on Medifast regardless Good Luck to you!!..

Basically, all thyroid meds should be taken on an empty stomach (most state this on the label). Soy and calcium can interfere with the medication being absorbed into your system. 1 hour is ok. 2-3 is preferred. I generally take my pills at 6 am and eat breakfast at 8...

I had to laugh when I read this thread... I too have hashimoto's and am on levoxyl and every night I wake up at 3 am .... (sleep problems) soo, I take my med then...

I figure some good ought to come of having to wake up soooo soon for the day..

I set my alarm 3-4 hours before I am going to get up, wake up take pill and go back to sleep. I keep them next to my bed. If I happen to wake up to pee I just turn that alarm off and take them then...

I am also hypo and take my thyroid medicine in the morning at least 1 hour before I eat. My first meal is always either Chai Latte or Cappucino which are non-soy based Medifast meals. If you like to have coffee in the morning like I do, the hot drinks are great mixed with coffee! You can find a list of the other non-soy Medifast meals on the website. Good luck!!!..

I too am Hypo. And take Armour thyroid. I take mine first thing in the morning and either dont eat for 1-2 hours or have non soy based. I have been doing medifast for 5.5 weeks and have lost over 20 pounds and I feel good. Not hypo at all. I have been dealing with Hypo for almost 4 years so I am getting good at recognizing when my numbers are off! Good luck I bet you are going to feel much much better...

I took the advice offered earlier about taking the meds at 3:00 am when I wake up to empty my bladder. When I get up for the day I really want my breakfast immediately and don't want to worry about soy. My doctor said I'm doling fine and he highly praised Medifast...

I am hypo thyroid. I think it is a great idea to take it in the middle of the night, since I am waking up from all of this extra water anyway!..

Thanks for all the input on this. I take Synthroid and was wondering if I could take it in the middle of the night when I get up to use the bathroom. I am going to do that now...

I would think that as long as it doesn't interfere with your sleep you should be fine. I tried taking my meds at night once and was up cleaning the house at 3 am. Not a good thing. hehe..
