The gas continues, the pooping will end and you will be constipated...
The gas is very common. I also had frequent bowel movements in the beginning - I think my body was adjusting and detoxing. Everything is basically back to normal now. I am gassy sometimes, but not as much as I was at first...

The pooping should slow down, and the gas too. The bars always cause gas for me more than the other stuff. Maybe Beano??..
Like others said,,the pooh will slow down,,your body is simply getting used to a different diet,,as to the gas,,,well, welcome to medifast,,,,just let'er rip ,,,and blame the dog!.

Not if you take 1500 mgs of calcium and 500 mgs of magnesium daily. Prescribed by my naturopath. You can also google magnesium and see that it does work...

Bonnie - yes, cal mag helps move things along. I've had to stop taking my cal/mag supplement because I have the opposite problem - excessive diarrhea...
Probiotics help with the gas as well. When you start a new nutrition plan, the old bacteria (that was grown by your old diet) dies off, as the new flora inhabits your gut, causing major gas. It will get better. On days when I have more then one soy project... my gut lets me (and the world at large) know in painfully odiferous ways If I stick to primarily whey/egg based, my gut does fine...
I have been on almost 5 days and am having quite a problem. As soon as I have a shake or oatmeal I have less than 5 minutes before I have to RUN to the bathroom with severe diarrhea. Is this normal if so how long before I return to normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!..
You could have a soy sensitivity/allergy. Try avoiding the items that you know cause you distress and see if that helps. You might also want to search the Nutrisystem board or post a question of your own, or call Nutrition Support...
Think "Milk of Magnesia" and you'll see why magnesium is recommended. The calcium doesn't make a difference, but you need it to balance the magnesium intake.
I would think it might help to go with a few of the soy-free items too (hot drinks, cream soups?) and see if that doesn't help. I don't have too much trouble, a bit of gas, but I blame that on the large amounts of veggies..
Am starting Medifast tomorrow..is the gas due to the fiber?? I know I experienced this when I tried upping the fiber in my diet.....hope this dont happen too badly with me as I work with the public!! LOL..

Here's my two cents worth on what has worked for 'moi.'.
Gas-X has done wonders to 'downplay' the, ahem-"foofer's" I was struggling with-while-believe it or not-Benefiber has kept the 'loose stools' in check. Go figure, it's doing the opposite of it's intended use, yet, it's keeping everything running smoothly.
I would strongly suggest that you speak with a Medifast Dietician, however..

Hi there, I was in the same boat as you, however I've been doing Medifast since January. The gas/diarrhea started about 3 weeks ago and I spend all day with people at workI also had a BIG conference to attend this weekend, so I was panicked! I took Imodium for the diarrahea and it subsided, but the gas carried on....So, I followed the advice of "Texas Liz", and tried Baking Soda. She used 1 tsp(I think) in 1 cup of water. I used maybe 1/4 tsp or less in a small amount of water or tea with lemon. Drink it down! It really helps! Also, I've started pro-biotics(twice a day) and have taken some activated charcoal capsules. Yes, I'm throwing a lot at my gut, but it needed it! I got on Google and found the baking soda/pro-biotics/charcoal remedies listed.
If you have HBP, watch the sodium in the Baking Soda..
I'm glad to see this post. My mom & I recently joined and this has been a huge problem our first week on the plan. I am also on the road all day and in front of people all day making presentations - so gas is NOT an option!!! Lots of good ideas, too. I have a cal/mag supplement around here somewhere - will locate and see if it helps...
I found that a probiotic helps haven't tried the Medifast one, but that sounds similar to the ones I buy in the grocery store. Also, it appears that some Medifast foods bring it on more than others. I believe that the eggs are the worst culprit for me, but the bars do that for others. I'd experiment w/ the food combo and track how you feel to see if something may be making it worse for you. Hope all gets better. I can relate to you as I had a couple of those embarrasing days as well even cleared a couple dogs outta the room!..
Some people are more sensitive to the laxative effect of the sugar alcohols in some of the foods than other people...
