My birthday is coming up (10/31) and I don't want to disappoint my mother-in-love. She typically makes our favorite meal and dessert for our birthdays, and well she called today to ask what I wanted. I took a deep breath... I really wanted to say macaroni and cheese (homemade).... and said, "let me think about it and get back with you." It was a proud moment for me. But now I have a dilemma...

Any ideas for an OP cake or desert that can be made in a large quantity and not totally deplete my Medifast shake supply? And what about a yummy dinner that would satisfy everyone?.

Maybe I should mention that no one back home knows that I'm doing MF, so if I can find some recipes to send home prior to our arrival maybe I won't have to tell them.

Thanks for your help in advance!..

Your question was: How to handle birthdays while on Medifast?.

Hey and happy birthday!.

I would ask your MIL for chicken dish or even steaks with veggies. Also, it's find if she gets a birthday cake for your guests and then you can bring your own shake cake.

I have had several food based things over the past 5 months and have brought shrimp for myself to almost everyone. When asked, I just say I am on a doctor approved diet. That usually works..

Good luck to you!..

I agree with aylarosie, it will be hard but you can do it. I celebrated my birthday Oct. 17th. I have four small children and of course they would have been disappointed with no cake. So my husband helped make the birthday cake, but I printed the shake cake recipe and requested that. Topped with whipped topping (condiment) and a candle.

For dinner I had a grilled chicken and salad while the others enjoyed their usual sides. You will be amazed at how much will power you have. Just try your best to stick to the plan and remember no matter what happens recommit!. Happy Birthday..

Yes, I do call her that... even to her face.

This is something I picked up from one of my professors, she writes about it in her book. My husband's mother has become such a great friend and I love her dearly... now.

I've been thinking about the meal part of my birthday dinner... what about barbeque chicken, salad, and green beans? The rest of the family can obviously have bread and what-not but I can abstain. As for the cake... maybe the individiual cake is the way to go. Thanks for the advice!..

It will be really hard to stay totally on program and not tell people you are on medifast. Why don't you let your MIL know. You could request a chicken or fish meal with salad for yourself and starch ect for othersAs for cake ,if your strong enough let them have your least favorite and have a bar instead. On my birthday I ordered cupcakes and icecream cups for guests I enjoyed jello with coolwhip and a bar. I did not feel deprived but my favorite cake was not tempting meGood luck ,do your best and get right back the next day if you go off program. This is a way of life and we need to know how to cope ...
