First question I got is Can you eat black beans on the Medifast Diet? Thanks for any comment. My other question... I have done well on Medifast so far... but yesterday was my little girl's 4th birthday. She asked for a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and and strawberries. I made the cake for her, and it was marvelous.

I could not not have a little piece of cake with her when she asked).

Ended up with 3 Medifast meals plus a canned tuna/spinach/cucumber salad in addition to that piece of cake. Felt slightly hungry but ok/bearable yesterday. Today, however, has been a different story... felt hungry all day. Tonight I am bearily hanging in there the sugar craving is so overwhelming..

If anyone has any suggestions how to deal with this without just giving in, I'd like to know...

You betcha! but... you might wanna make sure and wait for another person here to confirm this as I am on the fence. Better yet, why don't you ask the Medifast guys because they can answer your Medifast question better...

I am also wondering why you felt like you had to eat the piece of cake? Just a wonder. I know that I am a sugar addict and if I had a few bites of cake it would cause big problems for me later on.....

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you should have all 5 Medifast meals every day (even with the cake) so that you get all your nutrition. I think taking out Medifast meals to equalize the calories of the cake may have you feeling legitimately hungry? Have some sweet Medifast meals to help fight the cravings, I love the chocolate mint crunch bars when I have a sweet tooth..

Best of luck...one meal at a time!..

The piece of cake may have thrown you out of the fat burning state because your carbs went too high. The only remedy for that is to get back into fat burning by sticking 100% to the plan. It will probably take a couple of days...

I KNOW IT SOUNDS WEIRD, but eat a dill pickle spear..it works to curve all cravings...try it..

You're just gonna have to grin and bear it while you get back into the fat burning stage, unfortunately. Your inner brat got a jolt of the good stuff and now it is clamoring to have it put back into the daily regimen and will do anything to get that to happen. You have to be stronger than the inner brat...

Yes even if you slip - you need to get right back on and eat all of your medifast meals - plus your lean and green - It does sound like you kicked your self out of the fat burning stage and it will take a few days to get back there! Good luck - stay strong you can do it!..

Once you slip out of ketosis you have to go through the "initial 3 days" of Medifast again, which include headaches, hunger, cravings, etc etc etc..

It's just how our bodies operate. You gave your body a piece of cake, now it wants more. It's the physiology of it...

I am sure your little girl wouldn't have noticed if you actually ate the cake. just sitting with her, while she enjoyed it, would have been enough for her. You could have cut your piece and pretended to eat,,,I have moved food around on a plate more than once at a special occasion to make people think I have eaten some..

There are also recipes here for shake cakes, you could have had one of those for yourself..

I imagine your cravings today are due to the high sugar amount you had yesterday. Keep to the 5/1 today 100% and drink more water. The suggestion of the dill pickle spear that another poster made is also a good idea..

Move on with your program, but remember this slip and the results, to remind yourself that you don't want to repeat this..

You are worth the effort it takes to do this program, you CAN succeed...
